Dialogue 1: In a clothes shop

Assistant: Can I help you?

Lady: Yes, please. I’m looking for a silk blouse.

Assistant: What size are you?

Lady: I think I’m a size 10, but I’m not really sure.

Assistant: And what colour are you looking for?

Lady: I’d like a pale blue one.

Assistant: This one’s size 10.

Lady: It’s very nice - how much is it?

Assistant: It’s £11.99.

Lady: Can I try it on, please?

Assistant: Certainly, the fitting room’s over there.

........later

Assistant: Did it fit?

Lady: No, I’m afraid it was a little too small. Have you got a larger size?

Assistant: Of course, try this one - it’s an 11.

........later

Assistant: How was that one?

Lady: It’s perfect - I’ll take this one, please.

Assistant: Right, that’ll be £11.99, please. How would you like to pay, card or cash?

Lady: Do you take Visa?

Assistant: Yes we do.

Peter: How much does this vase cost?

Trader: You can have it for £20

Peter: £20 ? That’s too expensive.

Trader: All right, I’ll let you have it for £18. It’s a bargain at that price.

Peter: No, it’s still too expensive.

Trader: Well, make me an offer.

Peter: I’ll give you £12.

Trader: No, I can’t sell it for £12. I paid more than that for it. How
