English for Business: Meetings, Negotiations and Presentations

Successful communication skills are essential in today’s business world. For successful communication in the business world people need to be confident with the language they use.

This course emphasises the key language and the language strategies that are used in meetings, negotiations and presentations.

The course covers the following areas:

Formal meetings

Informal meetings

Negotiation language and strategies

Conversation and fluency practice

Pronunciation and intonation

Social business English

Business presentations

During the course the participants will have extensive practice in using the language through role plays and simulations. The course also includes the strategies needed for successful small talk and conversation. Participants will also extend their knowledge of modern business vocabulary and have extensive pronunciation practice.

The course consists of a file containing 12 modules, and two 60 minute cassettes.

Level: This course is run at two levels:

Intermediate (for those who have studied English for 3 or 4 years), and

Advanced (for those who have studied English for 3 or 4 years),

Instructor: The course instructor is Nick Marsh, Director of Comstar International Oy, who not only has 25 years experience in language training for Finnish business life, but also through his work as an export marketing consultant for several Finnish firms, has in-depth experience of meetings and negotiations throughout the world.

Duration of course: There are several alternatives to suit the clients needs, two of the most popular are:

70 hours over a five week period, made up of 5 weekly sessions of 6 hours each and 40 hours of supervised self-study. Each week the participants send in written homework which is corrected by the instructor and sent back. or

Four weekend sessions (Friday 18.00 - 21.00, Saturday 09.00 - 21.00) , this provides 75 contact hours and 40 hours of self-study.

Group size 8-16 persons.
